The new, enhanced SSAT score report more closely identifies students' strengths and areas for improvement in the assessed skills. The additional insight helps admission evaluators better understand where a student is poised for success or could use more support in their school's programs.

At the Enrollment Management Association, we've always viewed the SSAT as more than a tool for making admissions decisions. As a standardized assessment, the SSAT's unmatched fairness and reliability enable schools to predict educational outcomes confidently.

In the wake of COVID-19 and the known learning loss incurred by many students, our assessment and research team deemed it imperative to provide more data and insight regarding SSAT scores. The new score report is the first step in this direction, released for the 2024–25 admissions season when many independent schools are rethinking test-optional pandemic policies.

Admission teams reviewing SSAT reports will now see quantitative results divided into five sub-topics: Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, Data Analysis, Numbers and Operations, and Reasoning.

Reading results are also divided into five sub-topics: Identifying Text Details and Structure, Comprehending Language Use, Determining Main Idea, Interpreting and Inferring Meaning, and Understanding Authorial Intent.

The second page of the score report further contextualizes what the results mean regarding each student's cognitive development and skill improvement. For families, this section provides a meaningful diagnostic that is better understood than reviewing scores alone.

Existing EMA member schools are welcome to contact their account representative with feedback or questions on the new score report. Non-member schools are invited to complete our inquiry form to schedule a conversation.
