Seamlessly Integrate The Standard Application into Your Database

From The Yield, Fall 2014

Thanks to partnerships with Peter Frew, Director of Admissions at Taft School (CT), and Tom Sheppard, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at The Lawrenceville School (NJ), The Enrollment Management Association’s SAO team completed work on a web API (Application Programming Interface) designed to support the seamless integration of student inquiry, score, and application data into member databases.

What is an API?

An API serves as an interface between two software programs, essentially allowing two parties to share information within a predefined system for communication.

Why should I use the SAO API?

Use the SAO API to further reduce operational costs, increase productivity by eliminating manual data entry, reconciliation, and printing needs.

Is my school eligible?

The SAO API is a standardized program available to any member school interested in integrating the SAO into its school database solution.

What are the associated costs?

The entire SAO service, including the API, is free to member schools, but API integration charges may apply from the database company with which you work.

Which database companies are you working with?

To date, Veracross and InResonance have made the SAO API available to their clients, but it is available to any interested database provider.

“The successful implementation of an API will significantly reduce staff hours spent processing applications. With abundant data about individual applicants at our disposal, it is critical that our marketing and recruitment processes focus on the use of this data instead of mundane data processing tasks that should be automated by databases.”

-Tom Sheppard
, Dean of Admission and Financial Aid,
The Lawrenceville School

“For years, I have dreamt of a paperless workflow, in which SSAT scores and writing samples, and all pieces of the application, including recommendations, land in our database automatically. Sunaina and the programmers at The Enrollment Management Association enabled Taft to achieve this dream. I can’t say enough about the dedication of their team to make the API integrate seamlessly with our database, which has revolutionized our reading process.”
