The Director of Financial Aid and Associate Director of Admission at Chadwick School since July 2021, James previously worked at Baldwin School in Pennsylvania, Miss Hall's School in Massachusetts, St. George's School in Rhode Island, Hyde School in Maine, and with the Peace Corps in Bulgaria. Prior to moving to Los Angeles to work at Chadwick, James began his school career in the Outdoor Education world, moved into the mathematics classroom, and eventually into the admission office. As is true for many, he has also worked as an advisor, multi-season coach, dorm parent, trip chaperone, and club/affinity leader whenever the opportunities present themselves ... always finding opportunities to connect with students and their families! He holds a B.A. in physics and medieval English literature from Wheaton College (Massachusetts), a M.A. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University's Klingenstein Center, a CAEP from AISAP, and participated in the Future Leaders Institute at last year's EMA conference in Las Vegas.
Starting his ninth year in the enrollment management profession, James has grown his commitment to the area of financial aid in recent years by reviving the FA3 group for financial aid administrators in Southern California and serving on Clarity's Methodology Review Board. In the Admissions realm, he serves on the Educational Advisory Board at AISAP and is a regular presenter at annual conferences and regional meetings/webinars. If you ever have a spreadsheet question, he's certainly happy to help! Outside of school, he enjoys spending time in the wilderness with a pack on his back, baking treats for his advisees and colleagues, exploring the area on his bike, or building furniture at a local woodshop.
