Bridging the Mind Gap: The Perceived Financial Need of Upper Middle Class Families - Presentation

Bridging the Mind Gap: The Perceived Financial Need of Upper Middle Class Families - Presentation

with Steven Pietraszek, Director of Financial Aid, Associate Director of Admissions, Portsmouth Abbey School (RI) & Matthew Radtke, Director of Admission and Financial Aid, Hammond School (SC)

At schools across the country, tuition levels continue to rise and the number of families requesting financial aid also increases. In this presentation, we plan to explore a few key components in the perceived financial need of families who pursue private education and financial aid:

• The concept of demonstrated financial need - What does it take (on paper) to not qualify for financial aid?

• What perceptions do upper middle class families have about their own ability to afford a private education?

• What perceptions do schools have about what families can afford?

• What steps do we take as admission and financial aid administrators to convince families that a private school education is worth the tremendous investment?

Audience participation at all levels is encouraged in this presentation.
