Senior Director for Test Development
Carol Jackson joined the Enrollment Management Association in 2019 as the Senior Director for Test Development after working over 40 years as an Assessment Specialist in Mathematics at The Educational Testing Service (ETS). While she worked on the GRE, GMAT, and CLEP tests, Carol’s main responsibility at ETS was her work on the SAT, the SAT Subject tests, and the PSAT/NMSQT as an assembler of the mathematics sections of these tests. She served as the Team Leader of the PSAT/NMSQT, coordinating the sections of this test in the Verbal, Reading, and Mathematics content areas. Since 2014 she also served as the Test Coordinator at ETS for the Verbal, Reading, and Mathematics sections of the SSAT.
Carol has kept her finger on the pulse of mathematics education by working with numerous test development committees that included some of the top names in the country in this field at both the university and high school levels. Carol has also interacted with high school teachers by making frequent school visits to observe test administrations for the tests she assembled. Her goal has always been to keep the test takers foremost in her mind through the entire test development process.
Over the years, Carol has given numerous presentations at national conferences, such as NCTM and NCME, on the changes that occurred on the SAT and PSAT/NMSQT tests, including the introduction of calculator use on standardized tests. She has co-authored several research papers on assessment, and was interviewed for TV programs and College Board test preparation videos on issues related to the SAT.
Before working in assessment, Carol taught mathematics at both the high school and college levels. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Ohio Dominican College, and a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University.
